Govt backs local investment as Riviera unveils four beverage products

DAR ES SALAAM: THE government has renewed its drive for local industrial investment and stepped-up efforts against counterfeit alcohol following Lomatan’s launch of four new Riviera brand products, reflecting growing confidence in manufacturing sector and the expansion of formal beverage production.
Minister for Industry and Trade, Ms Judith Kapinga, said recently during the launch that the government has created a more favourable business environment to stimulate domestic investment and support enterprise growth.
“This investment demonstrates that Tanzanians have the capacity to compete and invest in any sector,” Ms Kapinga said, referring to Lomatan, a locally owned alcoholic beverage company.
The launch also served as a platform to strengthen the campaign against counterfeit and illicit alcohol, with Ms Loveness Mamuya, founder of Lomatan, calling on the public to reject substandard beverages.

Ms Kapinga said the government, through the Fair Competition Commission (FCC), will continue intensifying efforts to eliminate illicit and uncertified alcoholic products in order to protect consumers and ensure fair competition for legitimate producers.
The Managing Director, Ms Mamuya described the consumption of counterfeit alcohol as “economic sabotage against society’s health”, urging citizens to support government efforts by reporting and rejecting unsafe products in the market.
“True patriotism means protecting the health drinkers,” Ms Mamuya said, calling on women to take a leading role in the campaign against counterfeit alcohol. Lomatan’s key products under the Riviera brand include Jagaboom, Lomatan Whiskey, Lomatan Gin and Lomatan Vodka. The products were developed using expertise from Germany to ensure high quality and consumer safety.
