PM fulfills pledge, hands bikes to Rungwe riders

RUNGWE: PRIME Minister, Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has fulfilled his promise to provide ten motorcycles to bodaboda rider groups in Rungwe District, Mbeya Region, as part of ongoing efforts to economically empower youths.

The pledge was made on January 18th, this year, when the Prime Minister addressed residents of Kiwira Ward while returning from an official visit to Kyela District.

During the meeting, Furaha Zuberi Mwakyusa submitted a request for motorcycles to support bodaboda youth.

The Prime Minister accepted the request and pledged to provide 10 motorcycles.

The motorcycles were officially handed over by Rungwe District Commissioner Jaffar Haniu on behalf of the Prime Minister during a ceremony held at the Rungwe District Council Hall in Tukuyu.

At the same event, the District Commissioner also presented a three-wheeled motorcycle (bajaji) to Richard Mgongo, Executive Officer of Kiwira Ward, who has special needs.

This fulfilled another commitment made by the Prime Minister on the same day.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Mr Haniu urged bodaboda riders to safeguard the support by promoting peace and unity, in line with the theme of the 62nd anniversary of the Union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, which emphasises “Peace and Unity for Sustainable Development.”

He also called on the riders to adhere to road safety regulations and properly maintain the motorcycles so they can contribute to their economic progress rather than cause accidents or unrest.

“Let us follow the established laws and procedures so that these motorcycles can truly benefit us,” Haniu emphasised.

Meanwhile, Mbeya Regional Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Benjamin Kuzaga, said the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Camillius Wambura, has directed regional commanders nationwide to ensure drivers receive proper training to help reduce accidents caused by lack of knowledge.

Richard Mgongo, the beneficiary of the bajaji, expressed gratitude to the government, noting that the vehicle will enable him to perform his duties more effectively.

On behalf of the bodaboda riders, Furaha Zuberi Mwakyusa thanked the Prime Minister’s Office for its support, adding that the riders will continue to cooperate with the police to ensure compliance with road safety laws and regulations.
