Tanzanians affirm a strong commitment to peace and national unity

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIANS have continued to demonstrate unity, patriotism, and maturity in safeguarding peace, stability, and national security, particularly during recent political tensions following the General Election held on October 29, 2025.

The majority of citizens say the prevailing calmness reflects a strong sense of national responsibility, where the majority chose dialogue, restraint, and unity despite isolated attempts by a few individuals allegedly mobilising activities that could have disrupted stability.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam today, April 14, 2026, residents said peace remains a key pillar that supports daily life, development, and social harmony across the country.

Adam Seleman, a resident of Kivule in Ilala District, said Tanzanians have shown patriotism by valuing national unity and responding positively to guidance from President Samia Suluhu Hassan on maintaining peace and stability.

He said peace should not only be understood as the absence of conflict but also as the freedom to live and work within constitutional boundaries in an environment of respect and cooperation.

“A peaceful society begins with love at home and in our communities. Tanzanians have shown maturity by staying united and understanding the message that a few individuals should not be allowed to disturb national peace,” said Seleman.

Another resident,  Athuman Maziku from Mvuti in Ilala District, said peace has enabled citizens to continue their daily activities without fear, contributing to stability in both economic and social life.

He stressed that protecting peace is a shared responsibility and called on citizens to remain alert and reject any actions that could undermine harmony in their communities.

“Peace allows us to work freely and live in confidence. Every citizen has a role in protecting it within their surroundings,” said Maziku.

Residents noted that a stable environment continues to support investment, tourism, and business growth, as investors prefer predictable and secure conditions. They added that tourism also benefits from peace, as visitors are attracted to safe destinations.

They further said that peace allows national resources and energy to be directed toward development priorities such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and job creation instead of being diverted to managing instability.

According to them, true freedom is fully realized only when peace, order, and the rule of law are respected and protected by all citizens.

They concluded by calling for continued unity and cooperation among Tanzanians, saying that safeguarding peace remains essential for the country’s development and long-term prosperity.
