Tanzania collects 26.63tri/- to surpass revenue target by 103 per cent
DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government has surpassed its revenue target, collecting 26.63tri/- between July 2025 and February 2026, equivalent to 103.7 per cent performance on the back of intensified measures to boost domestic collections
Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba announced this to lawmakers when presenting the Prime Minister’s Office budget for the 2026/2027 financial year in the Parliament in Dodoma, noting that the achievement reflects ongoing government efforts to improve the business and investment environment while strengthening revenue mobilisation strategies.

Elaborating, he said key measures include expanding the tax base and enhancing the use of ICT systems in revenue collection to ensure efficiency and compliance.
According to the PM, the collections exceeded the target of 25.68tri/- and marked a 19.27 per cent increase compared to 22.32tri/- collected during the same period in the 2024/2025 financial year.
Of the total revenue, 22.09tri/- was generated from taxes, 3.78tri/- from non-tax sources, while 754.26bn/- came from development partners’ grants.
Dr Nchemba added that 12.28tri/- of the collected funds was channelled into development projects, including the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), Msalato International Airport in Dodoma, as well as the construction and rehabilitation of health facilities and schools, water projects, energy infrastructure, transport and logistics systems, and irrigation schemes.
