Dar resident pledges to construct a mosque after winning 10m/- from a draw

DAR ES SALAAM: WINNERS of a prize draw held over the weekend in Dar es Salaam have explained how the rewards will change their lives, with one saying she will use 10m/- to complete the construction of a mosque, while another has walked away with a Subaru Forester.
Among the winners is Umriya Omari, who has won 10m/- and says the money will help her complete the mosque project she had started, while Pantaleo Masawe has emerged the winner of the vehicle, estimated to be worth more than 30m/-.
Speaking after the draw, Umriya has said the money has come at an important time as she needs support to complete the community project.
“I will use this money to complete the construction of the mosque. It is something I have really needed support for,” she has said.
For his part, Pantaleo has said he never believed he could win the vehicle after filling in the entry card he was given when he bought a car last year.
“When I was given the card to fill in, I took it as a normal process and never imagined I could actually win until I received the official information,” he said.
The prizes have been offered by Jan International Group as part of its annual corporate social responsibility initiative, under which customers who buy vehicles are given a chance to participate in a draw for various rewards.
Apart from the two top winners, others who have won different prizes include Sharif Iyanja, who has taken home a motorcycle; Haroub Seif, who has won a washing machine; Upendo Godlove, who has received a laptop; Elias Edward, who has won a Samsung Galaxy S25 smartphone; and Shelina Suman, who has taken home an 85-inch Hisense television.
Speaking during the event, Gaming Inspector from the Gaming Board of Tanzania, Joram Joseph, has said the draw was conducted in accordance with the principles of fairness, transparency and legal procedures.
He has said organisers of promotional games and participants in such activities are required to comply with the law, including obtaining the necessary licences and meeting tax obligations in line with the established regulations.
“The draw was fair and transparent, and the winner has won legitimately. It is important for organisers of promotional games to comply with all legal requirements,” he has said.
For his part, Jan International Group Corporate Affairs Manager, Steven Mheza, has said the initiative is part of efforts to appreciate customers who buy vehicles through the company.
