Tanzania digitises the public services sector in support of vulnerable groups

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government has distributed smartphones to social welfare officers across Tanzania Mainland in a major push to strengthen communication and improve service delivery to citizens.
The smartphones were handed by the Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Dorothy Gwajima when closing the 31st General Meeting of the Tanzania Association of Social Workers (TASWO) held in Dodoma where she stated that the initiative is aimed at making it easier for the public to reach welfare officers, while also enabling officers to respond swiftly to community needs.
“These phones are registered under the ministry, and all operational costs will be covered by the government to help address citizens’ challenges through digital communication, as directed by President Samia Suluhu Hassan,” the minister said.
