Lindi plants 1.2 million trees as Tanzania marks the Forestry Day

LINDI: THE Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Ashatu Kijaji, has announced that a total of 1.2 million trees have been planted in Lindi Region as part of the celebrations for World Forestry Day and the National Tree Planting Campaign.

Speaking at the launch of the celebrations held today, March 19, 2026, at Ilulu Grounds in Lindi, Dr Kijaji said that various activities have begun and will continue over the next three days, including tree planting exercises across all districts in the region.

She explained that the trees have been planted in a variety of locations, including public institutions, schools, and private properties, as part of efforts to promote environmental conservation and address the impacts of climate change.

Dr Kijaji also thanked the Vice President, Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, for officially launching the celebrations. She noted that he personally planted a tree at the Lindi Regional Referral Hospital, adding that they are committed to protecting that tree along with all others that have been planted.
