TANESCO resorts to UAV technology in inspecting, monitoring electricity transmission

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Electric Supply Company has officially launched the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) to inspect its electricity transmission and distribution infrastructure, in a move aimed at improving service efficiency and reducing response time to power outages.
The launch event was held at TANESCO’s offices in Ubungo, Dar es Salaam, and was officiated by the organization’s Managing Director, Lazaro Twange.
Twange stated that TANESCO oversees an extensive electricity infrastructure network that requires close monitoring through modern technologies. He noted that the company manages approximately 8,500 kilometers of transmission lines and nearly 200,000 kilometers of distribution lines, many of which pass through forests, roadside corridors, and residential areas.
