Dr Samia sends condolences to the family of Dr Idriss Rashid  

ZANZIBAR: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has sent a message of condolence following the death of the former Governor of the Bank of Tanzania (BoT), Idriss Rashid.

Delivering her condolence message today, March 14, 2026, in Zanzibar, the Head of State said that the nation has lost a leader and public servant who made a significant contribution to strengthening financial institutions and advancing the country’s economic development.

She further conveyed her condolences to leaders and staff of the Bank of Tanzania, as well as to Tanzanians at large.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives, and friends of the late Dr Idris Rashid. The nation has lost a leader and public servant who made a significant contribution to strengthening financial institutions and advancing our country’s economic development,” she stated.

Dr Rashid, who served as BoT Governor from 1993 to 1998, passed away on March 13, 2026, while receiving treatment at Shifaa Pan-African Hospital.
