Samia land clinic empowers women

DODOMA: WOMEN in Dodoma Region have continued to benefit from various land services provided through the Samia Land Clinic, a special initiative by Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development aimed at empowering women through education on land rights and ownership.

Speaking during the clinic over the weekend, Assistant Land Commissioner for Dodoma Region Happiness Mtutwa said the initiative has created an important opportunity for women to access information and services that enable them to own and utilise land productively.

She said that through the clinic, a total of 1,916 women in Dodoma Region have received land-related services.

According to her, 694 land titles were registered, while 316 title deeds were handed over to women. In addition, 49 land disputes were resolved and 105 women received free legal advice.

“We highly appreciate the support from the Tanganyika Law Society (TLS), the Tanzania Women Lawyers Association (TAWLA), the Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance and the Legal and Human Rights Centre for working with us to successfully implement this programme and provide free legal services to wananchi,” Ms Mtutwa said.

Dodoma resident Edna Emmanuel urged women to take advantage of such clinics whenever they are announced in order to follow up on their land titles and secure their property rights.

“When you purchase land, do not keep the documents at home without following up on the title. Processing your title deed helps increase the security and value of your property,” she said.

Another resident, Leticia Mlolwa, appealed to authorities to extend the duration of the clinic to enable more women to access the services.

The Samia Land Clinic, which started on March 2, 2026, concluded on March 7, 2026. The programme forms part of preparations for the celebration of International Women’s Day.

Authorities said land services will continue to be provided through regional land offices across the country
