Tanzania affirms collaboration with GAVI in immunization service

DODOMA: TANZANIA has reaffirmed its commitment to strategic and technical collaboration with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, praising decades of joint work that have strengthened the country’s immunisation services and protected millions of children.

The Permanent Secretary in the Health Ministry, Dr Seif Shekalaghe, reaffirmed this during a meeting between the Ministry and Gavi held in Mtumba, Dodoma on Wednesday, noting that since Tanzania began benefiting from Gavi’s support, the organisation has played a critical role in reinforcing vaccine systems.

He mentioned other benefits as expanding access to immunisation and safeguarding Tanzanian children against preventable diseases.

“Through close collaboration, the achievements under the National Immunisation and Vaccine Development Programme (IVD) have been sustained, ensuring no child is left behind,” Dr. Shekalaghe said.

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, is a public-private partnership that helps vaccinate more than half the world’s children against some of the world’s deadliest diseases.

Since its inception in 2000, Gavi has helped to immunise a whole generation – over 1.2 billion children – and prevented more than 20.6 million future deaths, helping to halve child mortality in 78 lower‑income countries.
