Kilombero Sugar hailed for supporting digital transformation in Schools

KILOSA: KILOMBERO Sugar Company has successfully delivered Phase Two of its ICT Empowerment Program for Schools, expanding digital access to secondary schools surrounding the Kilombero Sugar Estate.
The ongoing community-focused initiative is designed to equip students with essential digital tools and skills, contributing to the development of a digitally enabled society.
Under the second phase, the company has donated more than 50 full-set desktop computers to Kidodi, Iwemba, and Malecela Secondary Schools.
The donation includes full technical installation support from the company’s IT Division.
The latest handover follows Phase One of the program, during which 35 desktop computers and furniture were donated to Nyange and Lyahila Secondary Schools.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Corporate Affairs Director Mr Derick Stanley said the initiative aligns with national development priorities, including the Tanzania Development Vision 2050, the National Digital Education Strategy 2024/25–2029/30, and the National Artificial Intelligence Guidelines for Education.
He noted that improved access to digital learning tools is critical to reshaping the country’s education landscape.

The newly donated computers have been fully upgraded with foundational software applications to support teaching and learning. The initiative also complements the National Digital Guidelines for Schools and Teachers Colleges (2025), which emphasize the importance of secure, reliable, and affordable digital infrastructure in education.
Communication and Stakeholder Relations Manager Mr Victor Byemelwa said beneficiary schools were selected based on their readiness for digital learning.
“We assessed readiness for digital learning, including the availability of an IT teacher, a dedicated computer room, and a school’s ability to support the national digital education agenda,” he said.
Launched in August 2025, the ICT Empowerment Program will be implemented in phases, with continuous monitoring to assess impact and guide improvements.
The event’s Chief Guest, Kilosa District Commissioner, Shaka Hamdu Shaka, commended the initiative and called for broader collaboration to advance Tanzania’s digital transformation.
“The government continues to strengthen educators’ and administrators’ capacity to integrate digital tools into teaching and school management. We encourage more stakeholders to join hands with Kilombero Sugar in supporting Tanzania’s digital transformation,” he said.

Representing the schools, the Second Master of Kidodi Secondary School, Rashid Athumani, expressed gratitude for the support.
Restuta Ngaema, a Form Three student at Iwemba Secondary School, also welcomed the initiative, saying access to computers would help her pursue her interest in ICT.
Kilombero Sugar reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the ICT Empowerment Program to reach more schools across the Kilombero Valley as part of its long-term contribution to Tanzania’s digital education agenda.
