1.8tri/- projects unveiled during revolution celebrations
ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR Second Vice President, Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, has described the 62nd anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution celebrations as highly successful, noting that more than 110 major development projects have been launched across Unguja and Pemba.
Speaking at a special press briefing with journalists, Mr Abdulla expressed gratitude to leaders of both the Union and Zanzibar governments for their role in ensuring peaceful and impactful celebrations.
“We successfully launched and laid foundation stones for 110 development projects across Unguja and Pemba, with a combined value exceeding 1.8tri/-,” he said, extending special appreciation to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, for her support and participation in the celebrations.
He also thanked Vice President Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, Prime Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba, Zanzibar President Dr Hussein Mwinyi, and ministers from both governments for their active involvement in inaugurating and supervising the projects.
Mr Abdulla made the remarks during a meeting held at Idriss Abdulwakil Hall in Kikwajuni, organised to thank leaders, journalists and citizens for their peaceful participation in the Revolution festivities.
He revealed that of the 110 projects, 68 were officially inaugurated after meeting required standards, while the government continues to closely monitor those still under implementation to ensure quality delivery.

Among the flagship projects are the Mpigaduri– Maruhubi port and the Mangapwani multipurpose port in North Unguja, which are expected to significantly transform Zanzibar’s port operations and boost its role in East Africa’s maritime sector.
The Second VP also urged citizens of Zanzibar and Tanzania to continue safeguarding peace and unity, describing them as the foundation for sustainable development across all sectors.
On health services, Mr Abdulla addressed congestion at Lumumba Regional Hospital, calling on citizens to follow proper referral procedures as the government works to establish referral hospitals in every region of Unguja and Pemba.
