MOI’s orthopedic services win global appreciation

DAR ES SALAAM: MUHIMBILI Orthopedic Institute (MOI) has continued to excel in providing orthopedic services in the developing world, receiving funding for surgical equipment for bone fractures from the US-based non-governmental organization, Surgical Implant Generation Network (SIGN).
SIGN is an organization that for over 25 years, has been coordinating and funding implants and surgical equipment for developing countries, intending to improve orthopedic services worldwide.
Through an international assessment released on January 15, MOI has ranked second out of 450 hospitals worldwide collaborating with SIGN.
These achievements have led MOI to continue to be recognized as a center of excellence in orthopedics in Africa.
Speaking about these achievements, MOI Executive Director, Ambassador Dr. Mpoki Ulisubisya, said that these achievements are due to the expertise, professionalism, and dedication of MOI’s expert doctors and specialists, who have been serving patients with great patriotism and tireless effort.

For his part, MOI’s Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr William Mgisha, said that for three consecutive years, MOI has continued to hold second place in the world, preceded by Kossamaki Hospital in Cambodia.
Dr Mgisha explained that this expertise has enabled MOI to continue to obtain funding for SIGN Nail medical equipment, which is expensive, thus helping many patients, especially road accident victims who could not afford the cost of such treatment.
“The expertise of our Institute has contributed significantly to the availability of this essential medical equipment, which has saved lives and restored hope to many patients,” said Dr Mgisha.
In an effort to ensure that specialist and specialist orthopedic services reach all citizens, MOI has continued to coordinate orthopedic services in various areas of the country, build the capacity of orthopedic specialists, and train orthopedic specialists who are now spread across various regions of the country.
