Nchimbi: Revolution vision realised

ZANZIBAR: VICE-PRESIDENT Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi has said that development currently being witnessed across various sectors in Zanzibar, reflects the core objectives of Revolution, which sought to improve the lives of the people.
Dr Nchimbi made the remarks during the official opening of Makunduchi Secondary School in the Kusini Unguja Region, held as part of activities marking the 62nd anniversary of the Zanzibar Revolution.
He said the vision of the founders of the Revolution continues to be realised in Zanzibar and across mainland Tanzania.
“Access to education for the people of Zanzibar has expanded significantly compared to the period of the Revolution in 1964. At that time, there were only 68 schools, whereas today the number has increased to more than 1,200,” Dr Nchimbi said.
He added that the number of students has risen from about 25,000 in 1964 to more than 600,000 currently, with the islands now having five universities compared to none at the time of the Revolution.
Furthermore, the VicePresident said the government has continued to implement major reforms to the education curriculum, focusing on strengthening learners’ critical thinking, research capacity, innovation and practical skills.
He said the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar has also enhanced the curriculum by placing greater emphasis on technologybased teaching and by improving laboratory and classroom infrastructure.
“These efforts are aimed at enabling young people to become self-reliant through both general education and vocational training pathways,” he said.

He also commended residents of Makunduchi for their patriotism in donating land for the construction of Makunduchi Secondary School.
