TRA Kagera exceeds quarterly revenue target

BUKOBA: THE Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) in Kagera Region has collected 57.8bn/- in the first three months of the 2025/26 financial year, exceeding its target of 50.3bn/- and achieving 114 per cent of the goal.
Speaking recently, TRA Kagera Regional Manager, Mr Castro John, said the region targets to collect 211bn/- in the 2025/26 fiscal year from various sources, including businesses, investors and customs stations.
He noted that the 57.8bn/- collected between July and September, 2025 reflects strong performance and stakeholder cooperation.
“These impressive achievements reflect our collective responsibility to ensure successful revenue collection through strong collaboration, patriotism and accountability. We need continued support from our stakeholders to meet our annual target,” Mr John said.
He urged Tanzanians to fulfil their tax obligations, stressing that tax compliance is essential for economic development and enables the government to provide social services in key sectors such as health, education, water and infrastructure.
Mr John also called on traders to be honest in their business operations by properly using Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs) and issuing receipts for all goods sold.
Commending taxpayers for their contributions, he assured them that TRA will continue providing tax education to improve compliance, while the government works to enhance the business environment.
“Paying the right taxes on time enhances economic development and enables the government to deliver essential social services. Traders should be trustworthy and ensure they use EFDs and issue receipts for every transaction,” he said.

Furthermore, Mr John urged traders to use official customs stations when importing and exporting goods and to pay the correct taxes to support national development.
He also appealed to owners of private vehicles with foreign registration numbers to ensure they are registered at customs stations.
“Traders should be patriotic and use official customs stations. Through tax payment, we are witnessing the implementation of large-scale projects that were once considered unfeasible. These projects are made possible by tax revenue,” he added.
He listed official customs stations in Kagera Region as Kabanga, Rusumo, Murusagamba (Ngara), Mutukula, Kanyigo (Missenyi) and Murongo (Karagwe).
