DPP releases Niffer after dropping her treason charges

DAR ES SALAAM: The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has dropped charges and released cosmetics businesswoman Jenifer Jovin, popularly known as Niffer, and Mika Lucas Chavala, who had been facing treason charges.

The decision was issued today, December 3, 2025, by Senior Resident Magistrate Aaron Lyamuya, after the   State Attorney, Titus Aron informed the Court that the DPP had no intention of continuing with the charges against the two accused.

The investigation case, registered as 26388/2025, was dismissed under Section 92(1) of the Criminal Procedure Act, Chapter 20, as revised in 2023.

“The Court agrees with the request made by the Prosecution, and therefore releases these two accused persons,” said Magistrate Lyamuya.
