SADC nations launch the 2025-30 Communication, Advocacy Strategy

GABORONE: THE Southern African Development Community (SADC) has launched its 2025–2030 Communication and Advocacy Strategy aimed to strengthening communication, regional cooperation, and sustainable development among its member states.

The launch event that took place in Gaborone, Botswana, brought together various stakeholders from the communication and information sectors, as well as international development partners.

While launching the strategy, SADC’s Deputy Executive Secretary for Regional Integration, Angele Makombo Ntumba, said the strategy will help advance communication systems in this digital age and enable the Southern African region to improve infrastructure, the economy, trade, and community development projects for the benefit of member states.

Ntumba stated that the Communication Strategy launched in English, French, and Portuguese will be jointly implemented by SADC member states through SADC National Coordinators and National Information and Communication Coordinators in the 16 SADC member countries.

She called on these coordinators to collaborate with SADC and various stakeholders in implementing the strategy, including media outlets and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) institutions within their countries and across the Southern African region.

Additionally, she expressed gratitude to the German Government, through its development agency GIZ, for sponsoring the preparation and launch of the strategy, noting that this support has enabled SADC to expand its work through this important Communication and Advocacy tool.

Meanwhile, the Head of Economic Cooperation and Development at the German Embassy in Botswana, Simone Goertz, expressed GIZ’s commitment to strengthening its cooperation with SADC in implementing the Communication Strategy, ultimately fostering sustainable development for the benefit of member states, in line with the ongoing global changes brought about by globalization.
