Let us nurture peace

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA has concluded the much-awaited General Election with results on ballot paper out and special seats Members of Parliament (MPs) already named.
Different steps are currently being taken prudently as the new phase government is being formed in different positions as the government continues to maintain peace and strengthen security.
Although preliminary estimation conducted by authorities and petroleum stakeholders revealed that 41 fuel stations were affected during the recent skirmishes in several cities in the country, the government has assured the public that the quality and supply of fuel remain uncompromised and that all unaffected stations are operating safely, selling fuel at official indicative prices.
As Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner (RC), Mr Albert Chalamila said, Dar es Salaam is the heartbeat of Tanzania’s economy, serving as the main trade gateway for Zambia, Malawi, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, hence stakeholders should collaborate to maintain peace and security in the region and all over the country.
They should rally behind the government so as to ensure peace is cherished. Peace is vital for the nation and its people, as it forms the foundation for economic stability, social progress, and individual well-being.
It enables development by fostering a secure environment, allowing governments to invest in social services like health and education, and creating opportunities for businesses to thrive.
For citizens, peace means security from violence, the protection of human rights, and a stable environment where they can pursue their ambitions and trust in institutions.
Let us thrive to actively promote and care for a state of inner calm, strong relationships, and harmony with fellow citizens and all stakeholders who are in the country for different reasons, bolstering unity in the country and friendly countries.
This involves cultivating inner peace through practices like self-care, mindfulness, and gratitude, while also nurturing peaceful relationships with others through compassion, deep listening, and conflict resolution.
Peace is not passive but requires consistent, conscious effort to grow and be sustained – let us do that.
How about peace for the reasons of national security? It is undoubted that peace reduces the threat of violence and allows nation to dedicate more resources to security and protection in a non-military, sustainable way.
For people and communities, peace is significant for safety and security: It provides a safe environment for individuals to live, work, and raise families without fear of violence or oppression.
Human rights and justice are other aspects that are in line with peace, as it is a prerequisite for the protection of human rights and establishment of a just and stable society under the rule of law.
As for social harmony, peace promotes social cohesion, unity, and a sense of national identity, fostering a more inclusive and cooperative society.
