Expansion, rehabilitation works at Iringa Airport near completion

IRINGA: THE government, through the Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA), is continuing to implement a major project for the rehabilitation and expansion of Iringa Airport, as part of efforts to improve air transport services with a focus on safety, efficiency, and international standards.

The project is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen the country’s transport infrastructure.

So far, the project has reached 97 percent completion, with a total cost of more than 63bn/-.

 Completed works include improvements to the runway and other key infrastructure. In addition, the construction of a new permanent passenger terminal building is underway and it is a good stages.

The project is expected to increase the airport’s capacity to handle more aircraft and passengers at once, which will help reduce transport challenges and enhance the efficiency of air services in the Southern Zone.

Upon completion, the project will enable Iringa Region to have a modern, safe, and well-equipped airport, a development expected to stimulate economic growth, trade, and the tourism sector in the region and surrounding areas.
