BMH, Interburns agree to boost burn care

DODOMA: THE Benjamin Mkapa Hospital (BMH) has entered into a strategic partnership with Interburns the International Network for Training, Education and Research in Burns to enhance the quality of burn care services in Tanzania.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed recently at the hospital premises in Dodoma, aims to establish a specialised burns unit and ward dedicated to treating patients with fire-related injuries.
BMH Executive Director, Professor Abel Makubi, reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to implementing the agreement diligently to improve healthcare outcomes for burn victims.
“I assure you that we will honour and implement this agreement as part of our mission to provide quality healthcare services to all. This collaboration will strengthen capacity building through training, infrastructure development, medical equipment provision, and research exchange,” said Prof Makubi.

Interburns Chief Executive Officer, Ms Tina Bajec, expressed her organisation’s readiness to support Tanzanians through this partnership, describing the signing as a milestone in the shared effort to strengthen burn care and prevention.
“We are devoted to assisting Tanzanians through this collaboration with Benjamin Mkapa Hospital. This marks an important step toward improving burn care services and ensuring access to quality treatment,” Ms Bajec stated.
Head of Department, Dr Samwel Wambura, said the partnership will make a significant impact by establishing a modern unit equipped to provide comprehensive and specialised burn care.
Interburns operates globally to enhance burn care and prevention, focusing on capacity building, education, and clinical training, especially in lowand middle-income countries.
The signing coincides with Benjamin Mkapa Hospital’s 10th anniversary, marking another milestone in its expansion of local and international collaborations to strengthen specialised healthcare delivery in Tanzania.
