Tanzania receives the WHO envoy’s credentials

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Cosato Chumi, has received the credentials of the new World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to Tanzania, Dr. Alex Gasasira.

Speaking after receiving the credentials on behalf of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. Chumi expressed Tanzania’s appreciation to WHO for the strong collaboration between the organization and the Government of Tanzania, particularly in the health sector.

“Tanzania will continue to work closely with WHO to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, especially those related to the health and well-being of our citizens,” said Hon. Chumi.

He also acknowledged and commended WHO’s efforts in implementing the Triple Billion targets, which aim to ensure one billion more people benefit from universal health coverage, one billion are better protected from health emergencies, and one billion enjoy better health and well-being.

On his part, Dr. Gasasira thanked the Government of Tanzania for its continued partnership and pledged to strengthen the collaboration further for the benefit of the country’s health sector.

“Tanzania is a key partner of WHO, and we will continue to work closely to strengthen health systems and improve healthcare services for all Tanzanians,” said Dr. Gasasira.

Dr. Gasasira assumes this role at a time when Tanzania is actively implementing various health improvement projects in collaboration with international organizations, including the WHO.
