JKT lift Community Shield
DAR ES SALAAM: JKT Queens secured a 2–1 win over Simba Queens to lift the Women’s Community Shield at the KMC Complex yesterday, with two early goals proving enough to seal the result.
In the third-place play-off, Yanga Princess earned a 3–0 victory over Mashujaa Queens, closing their campaign with a solid performance.
In the final, JKT Queens made a strong start, striking twice within the opening 20 minutes to take control.
The opener came in the 12th minute when Jamila Rajabu worked the ball down the right flank before delivering a low cross into the box.
Winfrida Gerald timed her run well, arriving ahead of the defence to finish past Simba goalkeeper Ruth Aturo.
Five minutes later, JKT doubled their lead through an own goal.
Under pressure, Simba defender Asha Omary rose to clear a cross from Elizabeth Chenge but misjudged her header, directing it into her own net. Aturo, caught out of position, was unable to respond in time.
Simba Queens spent much of the first half on the back foot and went into the break trailing 2–0.
In the second half, Simba pressed for a response but struggled to break down a well-organised JKT side.
Their best chance came in the 82nd minute when Jentrix Shikangwa struck a free-kick with power, only for JKT goalkeeper Najiath Abbas to make a crucial save.
As the match approached fulltime, Simba finally pulled one back.
Shikangwa played a wellweighted pass through to Usanese Zawadi, who finished calmly despite pressure from the onrushing goalkeeper and covering defenders.
However, the goal came too late to change the outcome, as JKT Queens held on to claim the title.

Earlier yesterday at the same venue, Yanga Princess claimed third place with a 3–0 win over Mashujaa Queens.
Both sides started cautiously, but it was Yanga who made their chances count.
The opening goal came in the 16th minute when Jeannine Mukandayisenga found space and converted to give her side the lead. Yanga added a second shortly after the break.
Jeannine turned provider this time, sending in a cross that Precious Onyinyechi headed home to make it 2–0.
Moments later, Yanga were awarded a penalty after Tabea Munga fouled Precious in the area.
However, Aregash Kalsa’s spot-kick struck the post and the chance went begging. Yanga remained in control throughout the second half, keeping Mashujaa pinned in their own half.
Kalsa later made amends, scoring Yanga’s third with a clean strike to seal the win.
