Diarra, Ali top September performers

DAR ES SALAAM: YOUNG Africans goalkeeper Djigui Diarra has been named the Mainland Premier League Player of the Month for September, while JKT Tanzania’s Ahmad Ali has been voted Coach of the Month, according to the announcement made by the Tanzania Premier League Board on Friday.

Diarra was selected ahead of Anthony Tra Bi of Singida Black Stars and Mohamed Bakari of JKT Tanzania after helping Young Africans in two league matches played during the month.

He kept clean sheets in both, as his team beat Pamba Jiji 3-0 and drew 0-0 with Mbeya City.

The Tanzania Premier League Board said in its statement: “Diarra demonstrated consistency and played a key role in ensuring his team remained unbeaten without conceding a goal during September.”

Ahmad Ali was chosen as the top coach of the month ahead of Romain Folz of Young Africans and Miguel Gamondi of Singida Black Stars.

JKT Tanzania, under his leadership, drew 1-1 away to Mashujaa at Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma and won 2-1 against Coastal Union at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga.

The awards were decided by the TFF Awards Committee, based on performances during a month in which most teams have played only three matches.

A few clubs, including Simba, Young Africans, Azam and Singida Black Stars, have played only twice due to their participation in CAF inter-club competitions. The league is expected to resume full fixtures later this month.
