Tanzanian cyclists gear up for Nairobi race

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA is poised to make a splash in the cycling event named ‘Grand Nairobi Jubilee Live Free Race’ in Nairobi this Sunday.
The event that draws top cyclists from across the continent, will see four talented athletes representing Tanzania, who will travel to Kenya with sponsorship from Jubilee Health Insurance Tanzania.
CEO of Jubilee Tanzania, Harold Adamson, expressed pride in the company’s decision to collaborate with the Tanzania Cyclists Association for this year’s race. Adamson underscored the importance of sports in promoting public health and well-being, aligning with the government’s mission.
“We believe our team is well-prepared to showcase skills and represent Tanzania with pride. Sport plays a vital role in promoting health, and we are committed to fostering wellness through our health insurance and community programmes,” Adamson stated.
Tanzania Cyclists Association Talent Development Committee Chairperson, Judith Mashala, welcomed the sponsorship.
She noted that Jubilee’s support has enabled their team to build on their recent participation in a major international competition in Rwanda.
“Our cyclists recently competed in Rwanda, and receiving this support from Jubilee feels like a continuation of our journey. Their sponsorship is an invaluable opportunity to compete at a high level in Nairobi,” Mashala said.
Jubilee’s Chief Finance Officer, Hilary Godson, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the sponsorship as a dual-purpose initiative supporting sport while empowering the youth.
“We aim to nurture talent and encourage discipline and unity among young people as they strive to achieve their ambitions. By endorsing sports, we also create employment pathways, significantly aiding youth self-employment efforts,” Godson remarked.
The team landed in Nairobi on September 30 and is currently training intensively in preparation for the upcoming race.
