Reject opposition’s empty promises – says Mwinyi

ZANZIBAR: CCM presidential candidate Dr Hussein Mwinyi has called on Zanzibaris to reject the opposition’s “empty promises” in the upcoming 2025 General Election, arguing that they lack practical policies and the capability to govern effectively.
Addressing a large campaign rally at Nyarugusu Grounds in Pangawe Constituency, Dr Mwinyi cautioned citizens against being misled by opposition parties, stating they have failed to offer concrete proposals on critical sectors such as health, education, water, electricity, roads and other essential public services.
“Do not be deceived,” Dr Mwinyi told the cheering crowd. “The opposition lacks clear policies that address the everyday challenges people face. They have failed to explain how they will solve our citizens’ problems. These are not leaders worthy of our trust or power.”
He added that CCM’s large turnouts at rallies reflect the party’s popularity, dismissing opposition claims of low attendance as excuses. “The truth is, the people are with CCM,” he declared.
Dr Mwinyi highlighted key achievements recorded during his first term, including the construction of modern schools, district and regional hospitals, major and feeder roads, sports arenas, modern markets and strategic energy projects.
He urged voters to extend CCM’s mandate for another five years, promising continued progress and inclusive development through to 2030.
In Pangawe and neighbouring constituencies, he pledged construction of tarmac roads, new primary and nursery schools and improved water access.
He also promised that youths would benefit from interest-free loans, increased employment opportunities and expanded sports infrastructure to provide modern recreational facilities across constituencies.
CCM Zanzibar Deputy Secretary-General, Dr Mohamed Said Mohamed said Dr Mwinyi was selected as the party’s candidate because he is “hardworking, visionary and committed to serving the people.
Deputy Health Minister, Hassan Khamis Hafidh, praised Dr Mwinyi for expanding free healthcare, building new health centres and equipping public hospitals.
Veteran CCM cadre, Mohammed Chomo, described Dr Mwinyi’s leadership as a continuation of the 1964 Revolution’s legacy under Mzee Abeid Amani Karume, urging voters to ensure another decisive CCM victory on October 29.
“Choosing CCM means choosing peace and real development,” Chomo said. “With Dr Mwinyi, President Samia Suluhu Hassan and our representatives, the future holds even greater prosperity.”
