President Samia attends Fuoni MP’s funeral

ZANZIBAR: THE Tanzanian president, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, visited the Isles, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, to offer her condolences following the death of his brother, Abbas Ali Mwinyi.

The late Abbas passed away on September 25, 2025, at Lumumba Hospital in Unguja, where he was receiving medical treatment.

President Samia was accompanied by various government and ruling party (CCM) leaders as she extended her sympathies to the grieving family. Among those who joined her were Deputy Prime Minister Doto Biteko, Speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania Dr. Tulia Ackson, and the Second Vice President of Zanzibar, Hemed Suleiman Abdulla.

Other notable attendees included the Speaker of the Zanzibar House of Representatives, Zuberi Ali Maulid, and CCM’s Secretary-General, Dr. Asha-Rose Migiro.

Abbas, who was a parliamentary candidate for the Fuoni constituency, passed away yesterday while undergoing treatment at Lumumba Hospital in Unguja. His death comes at a time when he was preparing to run for office, a loss deeply felt by many who knew his dedication to public service and the ruling party.

His body is expected to be laid to rest today at the family cemetery in Mangapwani, Unguja. Various leaders and members of the public are expected to attend the burial to pay their last respects and offer condolences to President Mwinyi’s family, while praying for the late Abbas to rest in peace.
