Special groups benefit from ‘Futa Delete Kabisa’ campaign

SINGIDA: THE Tanzania Association of the Deaf (CHAVITA) has greatly benefited from the ‘Futa Delete Kabisa’ campaign, launched by the Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) at the national level in Singida Region.

The campaign aims to educate the public on the dangers of spreading false information, how to identify misleading content, and the importance of safe internet usage.

Thanks to the availability of sign language interpretation, CHAVITA members were able to participate fully in the sessions, making the campaign inclusive and impactful for the deaf community.

During the event, CHAVITA members were taught best practices for handling misinformation , including ignoring and deleting false, inflammatory, or misleading messages rather than sharing them.

Participants also learned how to detect fake news by referencing official sources, using credible media outlets and analysing the language used, such as exaggerated tone, emotionally charged wording, grammatical errors, or unrealistic statistics.

The message was clear: everyone has a responsibility to verify information before sharing it.

The campaign highlighted the serious consequences of spreading misinformation, emphasising the legal risks for senders, including imprisonment, fines, or both. For recipients, misinformation can cause panic, provoke conflict and threaten social harmony.

Speaking at the climax of the event, the TCRA Manager reiterated the Authority’s commitment to working closely with CHAVITA to ensure that communication education reaches all members of society.

The goal, he said, is to build a more inclusive society where access to information and communication is equal for everyone.

CHAVITA leaders and other stakeholders, including Mr Edwald Patory, Mr Jeremiah Nkinda Deus and Ms Gloria Mathias, praised the initiative.

They said the “Futa Delete Kabisa” campaign empowered their members to critically assess digital content, break down communication barriers, and confidently engage in the digital economy. Overall, the campaign supports Tanzania’s national goal of fostering a safe, wellinformed digital society.

TCRA has urged all Tanzanians to avoid sharing false information and to verify content through trusted channels before forwarding it to others.

The campaign was led by TCRA’s Manager for Consumer and Customer Affairs, Engineer Kadaya Baluhye, alongside his team, which included ICT Officer Shedrak Justine and Communications Museum Curator Ms. Jasmine Kiyungi.

It formed part of the ongoing celebrations for the International Week of the Deaf, held at VETA College in Singida from September 22 to 27, 2025.
