Dr Mwinyi shortens his Pemba campaign to attend his brother’s funeral

ZANZIBAR: THE Zanzibar Chama Cha Mapinduzi(CCM presidential candidate, Dr. Hussein Mwinyi, has cut short his campaign tour in Pemba Island and returned to Unguja to attend the funeral of his brother, Captain Abbas Ali Hassan Mwinyi, who passed away today, September 25, 2025, in Zanzibar.
The late pilot, Abbas Ali Hassan Mwinyi, will be laid to rest tomorrow, Friday, September 26, 2025, at the family home in Mangapwani, North Unguja Region, shortly after Friday prayers, which will be held at Qaboos Mosque in Zanzibar.
Meanwhile, the ACT-Wazalendo party has suspended its public rally and other scheduled campaign events that were to take place today, Thursday, September 25, 2025, in mourning for Captain Abbas.
According to the ACT-Wazalendo campaign schedule, Zanzibar presidential candidate Othman Masoud Othman was set to hold a public rally to present his policies in the Bumbwini Constituency.

In a public statement, the Secretary of Information and Public Communications of ACT-Wazalendo, Salim Biman, said that due to the passing of Abbas, who was also the parliamentary candidate for Fuoni, the party has decided to suspend the day’s program.
“In respect of human dignity, solidarity, and compassion, ACT-Wazalendo has decided to halt political activities in the area to give space for the family, relatives, and the public to participate in the funeral and bid farewell with due honor to their beloved,” Biman said.
“ACT-Wazalendo stands in solidarity with the bereaved family, relatives, and the people of Bumbwini during this difficult time of mourning,” he added.
