Tanesco acquires 448 vehicles in a move  to cut operational costs

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has announced the acquisition of new transportation equipment, including 100 vehicles, 284 motorcycles, and 100 tricycles (bajajis), aimed at improving customer service and enhancing the efficiency of its workforce across the country.

Speaking today in Dar es Salaam, TANESCO’s Acting Director of Communications and Customer Service, Irene Gowelle, stated that the move is part of implementing recommendations made following an inspection tour by the company’s Director General to various parts of the country, where a significant shortage of working tools was identified.

“We found that the company had been incurring high costs on renting vehicles, motorcycles, and tricycles to provide services to our customers. For instance, in the last financial year, we were spending approximately 1.3bn/- billion each month on renting this equipment,” said Gowelle.

She explained that the acquisition is a strategic step towards cutting these costs and ensuring timely delivery of electricity services to customers.

“These new tools will enable our staff to reach customers more easily, provide timely service, and improve work efficiency across all regions. We believe the availability of these resources will create a more enabling and friendly working environment for our employees and help meet the government’s goal of delivering reliable and timely electricity services to citizens,” she added.

Gowelle also noted that some of the new equipment has already been deployed in various regions, significantly contributing to the improvement of electricity distribution and maintenance services.

TANESCO continues to make efforts to ensure electricity services are delivered efficiently and at affordable costs for all Tanzanians.
