Tanzania wins top GAFSP award for project excution
DODOMA: TANZANIA has been recognised as the top country in Africa for the effective execution of projects funded by the Global Agriculture and Food Security Programme (GAFSP).
The country’s Aflatoxin Control Project (TANIPAC), managed by the Ministry of Agriculture, won the 2025 award out of 13 projects implemented across the continent.
In the Ministry of Agriculture, Gerald Mweli, received the award on Monday. He commended TANIPAC officials for their outstanding performance, which enabled Tanzania to secure this recognition.
The achievement is attributed to TANIPAC’s success in meeting key criteria, including delivering intended results, submitting project reports on time and ensuring efficient use of funds, with about 99 per cent of the allocated resources utilised to date.

The 80bn/- TANIPAC project is being implemented under a partnership between the Government, the African Development Bank (AfDB) and GAFSP.
Its activities include construction of infrastructure such as warehouses in 12 local government authorities in Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, a post harvest crop handling centre in Mtanana, Kongwa District, a biological laboratory in Kibaha District and the National Agricultural Laboratory in Mtumba, Dodoma.
Five components of the project are rural roads development and maintenance, institutional strengthening and human capital development, community engagement, inclusion and protection, project management, monitoring and evaluation and contingency emergency response.
