Mobile networks enhance service quality –TCRA
DAR ES SALAAM: THE Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has announced that mobile phone service providers in the country have maintained strong quality levels while expanding coverage and penetration.
TCRA Director General, Dr Jabiri Bakari, revealed that the June 2025 communications sector status report shows all five Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) performing within the Quality of Service (QoS) parameters, with only minor variations.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Dr Jabiri said TCRA monitored MNO services across 14 regions between April and June 2025, assessing compliance in 17 key areas. The average performance stood at 92.8 per cent.
The five MNOs are Airtel, Halotel, TTCL, Vodacom and Yas (formerly TIGO). ‘Reliable and high-quality mobile communication services are vital for Tanzania’s economic growth, as they facilitate business operations, improve access to information and drive digital innovation,” he said.
Quality of Service parameters and measurement methods are outlined in the Electronic and Postal Communications (Quality of Service) Regulations, which were amended earlier this year.
TCRA’s monitoring included network availability, as well as the rates of failed and disconnected calls. It also assessed population penetration and the distribution of 2G, 3G and 4G networks within the surveyed regions.
He said, the evaluation covered efficiencies in call handover between communication towers and voice quality for users on the move. Data transfer speeds to mobile devices were also measured as part of the assessment.
