HESLB extends loan application deadline

DAR ES SALAAM: The Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB) has extended the deadline for loan applications from August 31 to September 14, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the board, the extension aims to provide an opportunity for those who, for various reasons, were unable to submit their loan applications within the original timeframe.
Additionally, the board reported that as of August 31, 2025, a total of 157,309 loan applications had been received for the 2025/2026 academic year. This represents a 5 percent increase compared to the 150,530 applications received during the same period last year (2024/2025).
The board also noted that 960 applications for the “Samia Scholarship” have been received, compared to 742 in 2024/2025, marking a 29 percent increase.

Moreover, the board advised loan applicants for the 2025/2026 academic year who have registered but have not completed their applications to finalize and submit their loan applications before the extended deadline.
The board began receiving student loan applications online from June 15, 2025.
The Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB) was established under Act No. 9 of 2004 (as amended in 2007, 2014, and 2016) with the objective of assisting needy and eligible Tanzanian students to access loans and grants for higher education.
HESLB’s main mandates include providing loans to needy students who secure admission to accredited higher learning institutions but lack the financial means to cover their education costs, collecting due loans from beneficiaries to use as a revolving fund to sustain its operations, and creating synergies through strategic partnerships within the student financing ecosystem.
