VP to grace 16th Manufacturer of the Year Awards
VICE-President Dr Philip Mpango is expected to grace the 16th President’s Manufacturer of the Year Awards (PMAYA) Ceremony tomorrow in Dar es Salaam.
The VP will represent President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the event which will be attended by government dignitaries, business leaders and representatives of international organisations.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam yesterday, the first Vice-Chairman of Confederation of Tanzania Industries (CTI), Hussein Sufian said the PMAYA is CTI’s flagship event.
He said the awards, which were first presented to the winners in 2005, aim at recognising the pertinent role of the industrial sector’s contribution to the national economy.
The awards also target raising the standard of business practices and promoting sound corporate governance, acknowledging and taking stock of technological advancements in the industrial sector as well as enhancing competitiveness in the industrial sector and promoting exports of industrial products and services.
“Rigorous evaluation exercise was conducted by an independent assessor, Data Works Associate Limited, whose staff made physical visits to premises of every participant, to determine the winners,” he said.
The main sponsor of this year’s event is the National Bank of Commerce (NBC). Other sponsors include Tanga Cement Limited, ALAF Limited, Kilimanjaro Cables Limited, Coca-Cola Kwanza Ltd, TCC and Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA).
Mr Sufian thanked all the sponsors for supporting CTI in organizing this year’s event and the European Union for supporting the Public Private Dialogue to improve the port performance to be held in the morning preceding the PMAYA event.
He urged all industries, CTI members and nonmembers, to support the government’s efforts towards achieving the goal of turning Tanzania into an industrial economy come 2025.
“PMAYA competition provides a challenge for corporate companies to improve the quality of products and services offered to the public.
I take this opportunity to encourage industries to enhance their productivity and competitiveness to strive in the local and international markets,” he said.
