MOI provides psychological services to patients during Social Welfare Week

DAR ES SALAAM: HEALTH workers at the Muhimbili Orthopedic and Brain Institute (MOI) have been given special training aimed at building their understanding of the role and responsibilities of the Social Welfare Officer at the hospital, so that each staff member can collaborate effectively in serving patients with social and psychological challenges.
This comes as the National Social Welfare Week continues to be celebrated from 25 to 30 August 2025 in Dar es Salaam under the slogan “Get Psychological Help; Strengthen Mental Health.”
MOI Director of Nursing Services, Fidelis Minja, has said that it is good for every staff member to understand the responsibilities of the Social Welfare Officer in order to be able to provide better services to patients with social needs.

For her part, the Senior Social Welfare Officer of the MOI, Stella Kihombo, has explained in detail the main responsibilities of the cadre, including providing psychological support to patients undergoing surgery, conducting socio-economic assessments, monitoring patients at home (outreach), connecting patients with their families, as well as managing the medical exemption policy.
And Furaha Godfrey, one of the participants in the training, said that through the training, she has built the ability to recognize the great contribution of the Social Welfare Officer in health and medical issues in general.
