TACTIC project improves infrastructure, services in Dodoma

DODOMA: THE Tanzania Urban Infrastructure Development Project (TACTIC) is transforming Dodoma’s infrastructure and economic landscape, with key developments in roads, markets, and public facilities.

Dodoma City Executive Director, Dr Fredrick Sagamiko said the project is addressing long-standing urban challenges, especially in road and service infrastructure.

“The project includes the construction of 10.19 kilo – metres of roads to improve access and reduce transportation and logistics costs for residents,” Dr Sagamiko told journalists earlier this week.

He noted that a modern city market is also under construction in the city centre, replacing outdated facilities and creating a better environment for traders. The market will feature ample parking and accommodate around 875 vendors, significantly boosting the local economy.

Other components of the project include construction of a new bus stand in Nzuguni, drainage systems in Ilazo and a modern livestock market.

Dr Sagamiko said there is an urgent need for improved transport facilities in the rapidly growing Nzuguni area.

Many local traders have welcomed the initiative. Rozy Mtundu, a vendor at Majengo Market, said: “This new modern market will boost our businesses and make trading more efficient.

Laurent Munish, another trader, praised the government’s response to longstanding concerns: “The challenges we’ve faced for years will soon be behind us.”

The Mkalama Road project was also highlighted as a key infrastructure upgrade that is expected to increase land value and improve connectivity.
