TFS claims 2025’s best Financial Management Award

ARUSHA: The Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS) has continued to shine on the national stage after winning the 2025 Best Financial Management Award for Non-Commercial Institutions during the Chairpersons of Boards and Heads of Government Institutions Forum (CEOs Forum 2025) held in Arusha.
The award was officially presented on August 24, 2025, by the Vice President, Dr. Philip Mpango, during the opening ceremony at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC).
The award was received on behalf of the TFS Board Chairperson by Advocate Piensia Christopher Kiure, a member of the TFS Advisory Board. She was accompanied by Senior Assistant Commissioner and Chief Accountant of TFS, CPA[T] Peter Mwakosya, who represented the Commissioner for Conservation.
In a statement, TFS Chief Executive Prof. Dos Santos Mchechu said the competition was highly competitive, involving all non-commercial government institutions that demonstrated excellence in financial management, good governance, and reduced dependence on the government budget.
“Among the top five institutions in this category were: TFS, TIRA, BRELA, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), and the Tanzania Tobacco Board (TTB). TFS emerged as the overall winner,” he said.
Adv. Piensia Kiure emphasized that the award is a result of consistent financial discipline established since TFS was founded in 2011.

“For 14 consecutive years, TFS has received clean audit reports from the Controller and Auditor General (CAG), with revenue growing by an average of 10 percent annually. We’ve improved our revenue collection and financial management systems, and strictly adhered to directives from the Government, the Ministry, and our advisory board,” she stated.
She also noted that TFS has earned international recognition through partnerships with countries like Brazil and Russia, focusing on knowledge exchange in the forestry sector a move that has helped position TFS at global quality standards.
“This award motivates us to continue educating citizens on following government procedures in forest harvesting and forest products trade. Our cooperation with communities has grown stronger, and we expect even greater achievements,” she emphasized.
Following TFS’s win, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism also received an award for its effective oversight and significant support to the Agency. The award was received by Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dunstan Kitandula, on behalf of Minister Pindi Chana.
The three-day forum was attended by board chairpersons and heads of government institutions, under the main agenda of strengthening accountability and good governance in the public sector.
