Kenya fall to Madagascar in penalty shootout

NAIROBI: AT Moi International Sports Centre in Nairobi, Kenya’s campaign ended in heartbreak as they were knocked out by Madagascar following a tense penalty shootout.
After a 1-1 draw in regular time, the match was decided by spot-kicks, with Madagascar prevailing 4-3.
Kenya and Madagascar played out a tightly contested match that saw both sides share spoils in regular time.

The first half offered few chances, with neither team able to break the deadlock. Kenya edged the possession and were quicker to second balls but lacked a cutting edge in the final third.
The game sprang to life early in the second half when Alphonce Omija opened the scoring in the 48th minute, rising to head home from a Boniface Muchiri set-piece.
However, Kenya’s lead was short-lived. In the 69th minute, Madagascar were awarded a penalty, calmly converted by Fenohasina Razafimaro to bring the match level and extend the game to extra time.
