Indian Doctor lifts lid on why heart attacks mostly affect women

DAR ES SALAAM: A specialist in internal medicine from Ramaiah Hospital, Narendra Swamy, said heart attacks affect women more than men and stressed that more education is needed to combat this fast-growing threat.
Dr Swamy revealed this in Dar es Salaam today, August 9, 2025, when he visited the Tanzania Women Journalists Association (TAMWA).
Dr Swamy, who is also the CEO of Ramaiah Hospital in India, said that the reason why heart attacks affect women more than men is the hormones that women have.
“Let me just say that diseases affect women in their own way, according to their genetics and lifestyle,” he said.

Explaining the connection between cancer , Dr Swamy said that there is no specific cause that has been proven to be the cause of cancer in the world.
However, he said, there are ways to prevent the possibility of getting cancer and said, doing exercises including walking for at least 30 minutes a day.
“The second thing is to live a healthy lifestyle, do not eat too much or too little, then it is important to do health screenings whenever you can,” he said
Dr. Swamy emphasized that many diseases are due to two main reasons which are genetics and lifestyle, so the health of any community depends on good lifestyles that will help our community.
In addition to providing health advice, Ramaiah Hospital has commended TAMWA for uplifting and empowering women, providing education on the rights of women, girls and children including health and thus has provided training opportunities for members of the association.
‘We will collaborate to provide training to TAMWA members, our doctors will provide several topics related to women including menopause, puberty and other non-communicable diseases,” he said
