Tanzania envisions fortune in the 7th AU Mid-Year meeting

MALABO: TANZANIA expects to benefit from the ongoing continental-level meeting in Equatorial Guinea whose aims are to identify areas of collaboration and establish international cooperation mechanisms to promote the development of the member states.
Tanzania is represented by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, who is Malabo, the Equatorial Guinea capital to represent President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
It is officially called the 7th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (7MYCM) of the African Union, Regional Economic Communities and Regional Mechanisms.
The 7th MYCM brings together the African Union, Regional Economic Communities, Regional Mechanisms, and Member States to identify areas of collaboration and establish regional and international cooperation mechanisms to promote the economic development of member states.
Giving the opening remarks, the President of Equatorial Guinea, Teodoro Mbasogo, emphasized the African integration and the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Agreement.
For his part, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, stressed the importance for member states to review and amend their tax laws to increase revenue for African countries.
In the meeting, which serves as a key platform for coordinating regional integration, many various reports were presented, including the status of regional integration and the role of the African Development Agency in promoting regional integration within the continent.
The African Union has eight Regional Economic Communities (RECs): UMA, COMESA, CEN-SAD, EAC, ECOWAS, ECCAS, IGAD, and SADC.
The MYCM was conceptualized in 2017 as the principal forum for the AU and Regional Economic Communities (RECs) to align their work and coordinate the implementation of the continental integration agenda, replacing the June/ July summits.
It is a meeting between the bureau of the AU Assembly and Regional Economic Communities (RECs), with the participation of the Chairpersons of RECs, the AU Commission, and Regional Mechanisms (RMs).
