Ex-PM Pinda urges unity among liberation parties

SOUTH AFRICA: FORMER Prime Minister and CCM Central Committee Member Mizengo Pinda has underscored the need to strengthen unity among Africa’s six allied liberation parties.

The parties are guided by the values of liberation and committed to justice, equality, and inclusive development through the practical implementation of Agenda 2063 – “The Africa We Want.” Agenda 2063 is Africa’s blueprint and master plan for transforming the continent into a global powerhouse.

It serves as a strategic framework for inclusive and sustainable development, reflecting the pan-African vision of unity, self-determination, freedom, progress and collective prosperity under the principles of Pan-Africanism and the African Renaissance.

Representing CCM Chairperson President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan at a Special General Meeting in Gauteng, South Africa, Mr Pinda emphasised that the future of Tanzania, South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Angola and Namibia depends on forging strong ties between leaders and their citizens.

The six liberation parties include the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa, the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), the South West Africa People’s Organisation (SWAPO) of Namibia, the Zimbabwe African National Union–Patriotic Front (ZANU PF), the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO) and Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) of Tanzania.

Delivering greetings on behalf of President Samia, Pinda called for the allied liberation parties to maintain their unity, uphold liberation values and promote justice, equality and inclusive development as tangible steps toward achieving the goals of Agenda 2063.

“This is not just about honouring our past. It is about translating the values of the liberation struggle into actionable strategies for the present and future,” Pinda remarked.

He also stressed the need to actively involve young people in political and socioeconomic development.

According to him, empowering the youth is crucial for building a patriotic generation with a deep understanding of the historical foundations of the liberation parties, similar to how founding leaders once led efforts to build their nations and secure peace.

The meeting, which began on July 25 and concludes today, brought together leaders and representatives from the six parties to deliberate on defending the achievements of the liberation struggle, promoting inclusive socioeconomic development and strengthening solidarity for a more prosperous Africa.

Tanzania played a pivotal role in Africa’s liberation movements, particularly in Southern Africa. Under the leadership of the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, the country became a crucial base for various liberation movements, offering refuge and extensive support to freedom fighters.
