NBC Bank champions public safety, health in Dodoma

DODOMA: As the city of Dodoma prepares for the highly anticipated NBC Dodoma Marathon on July 27, the National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has taken a proactive step in enhancing public safety.

Here, the bank has donated 10 motorcycles, worth 28m/-, to the office of the Regional Commissioner, underscoring its commitment to community security and development.

The handover ceremony, held at the Regional Commissioner’s office, was attended by key officials, including District Commissioner Mr Jabir Shekimweri, representing Regional Commissioner Ms Rosemary Senyamule, alongside police representatives and NBC staff, led by the Director of Corporate and Government Clients, Mr Elvis Ndunguru.

The event highlighted the growing cooperation between the public and private sectors in supporting public welfare.

In his remarks, Mr Shekimweri stressed the significance of the donation in bolstering the police’s operational capacity, especially ahead of the upcoming general elections, when security demands tend to rise.

“This support from NBC directly responds to a request made by the region last year. We deeply appreciate this timely intervention,” he pointed out.

The NBC Dodoma Marathon is more than a sporting event, it is a platform for raising awareness about key health issues, particularly cervical cancer. This year, organizers aim to attract 12,000 runners, up from 8,000 in 2024. The event will also fund education for 200 midwives and support nurses caring for children with autism. The high-quality jerseys and kits provided by NBC reflect the bank’s commitment to the event’s success and to broader community causes.

DC Shekimweri commended the meticulous preparations and noted the marathon’s potential to boost the local economy, particularly in tourism and hospitality.

“The increase in participants and prize incentives is encouraging. I urge Dodoma residents to come out in full support,” he said, calling on the public to foster a sense of unity along the marathon route.

Echoing this spirit of partnership, Mr Ndunguru expressed gratitude to regional leaders for their cooperation.

He also noted that NBC’s support is aligned with the broader regional security plan and demonstrates the bank’s dedication to ensuring a safe environment for major community events.

“Our response today reflects the strong relationship we have built with government leaders,” Mr Ndunguru said.

“When approached by the region, we recognized their forward-thinking approach to enhancing public safety. We’re proud to support this shared goal as we head into the marathon.”

Receiving the motorcycles on behalf of the Regional Police Commander, ACP Galus Hyera, was ACP Daniel Bendarugaho, who affirmed the importance of the donation.

He added: “These motorcycles will significantly enhance our patrol capabilities, during the marathon and beyond,” he stated, reinforcing the spirit of partnership behind the initiative.

As anticipation builds for the NBC Dodoma Marathon, the sense of community and cooperation is unmistakable. With support from NBC and local authorities, Dodoma is not only set to host a landmark marathon but to stand as a model for civic engagement, safety, and social progress.

Thousands will run, not just for fitness but for a safer, healthier future for all.
