Rostam suggests the establishment of a talent development fund worth $100m
DODOMA: TANZANIAN business mogul, Rostam Aziz, said for Tanzania to make rapid progress in this 21st century, the government must deliberately invest in human capital, especially the youth by establishing a talent development fund with an annual budget of approximately 100m US dollars.
Representing private sector stakeholders in the country, the billionaire gave his open opinion at the launch of the new National Development Vision 2050 in Dodoma today.
Elaborating on his point, he said that through the program, the government will identify and nurture around 1,000 exceptionally talented youth in strategic areas such as engineering, artificial intelligence, data science, finance, and other key areas.
Additionally, he said that the youth will receive training at leading global universities in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada.
“After completing their studies, they will return and serve in the Planning Commission and other government institutions, according to contracts they will have signed with the state under a bond system,” he suggested.
He added, “However, we cannot wait passively for these youth to return after completing their studies. We must strengthen our local universities and ensure that they can produce professionals of international standards. This is possible.”

However, he also proposed that all Tanzanian embassies should be given a special role to identify and bring back Tanzanians who are studying or working abroad in key sectors for the country to harness them as active human capital in driving the transformative agenda it envisions.
