Vision 2050 envisions brighter Tanzania

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Minister of State in the President’s Office for Planning and Investment, Professor Kitila Mkumbo, has assured Tanzanians that the Tanzania Development Vision 2050 will be fully implemented and overseen by the National Planning Commission and his Ministry, with close monitoring and the possibility of enacting a special law to govern its implementation.

Speaking today, July 8, 2025, during a meeting with editors in Dar es Salaam ahead of the official launch of Vision 2050 scheduled for July 17, Prof. Kitila stated that the government is well-prepared to implement the Vision in a transparent and inclusive manner that ensures public participation.

Addressing public concerns over the future of the Vision should a new constitution be adopted within the next five years, as promised by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Prof. Kitila emphasized that Vision 2050 itself recognizes the importance of having a strong constitution built through national consensus.

“The Vision explicitly highlights good governance and prioritizes the need for a strong constitution. It does not contradict the constitutional reform process. In fact, a new constitution is part of fulfilling the Vision by strengthening governance,” said Prof. Kitila.

The Minister revealed that the official implementation of Vision 2050 will commence on July 1, 2026. He added that citizens will have the opportunity to question and monitor its execution through their elected representatives in Parliament as well as through the media. The government, he said, is committed to strengthening the media to promote accountability and transparency.

He further noted that the 2025–2030 manifesto of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) includes a commitment to build strong and independent media institutions to support good governance in Tanzania.

The launch of the National Development Vision 2050 is expected to mark a significant step in guiding Tanzania toward inclusive, sustainable, and participatory development for decades to come.
