Azania win TCA Inter-Academy Cricket League

DAR ES SALAAM: TEAM Azania have emerged victorious at the Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA) Inter-Academy Boys Cricket League, which concluded earlier this week in Dar es Salaam.
The week-long tournament, organised by the TCA, was held across two venues — the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) and the Leaders Club grounds.
It brought together seven academy teams from across the country: Azania, Dar Combine, Morogoro, Tanga, Arusha, Combine and Gairo.
Azania were crowned the league champions following a series of thrilling matches that showcased promising talent and fierce competition.
The Arusha team finished as runners-up in this high-energy youth tournament.
In addition to winning the league title, Azania also dominated individual accolades, sharing top honours with Dar Combined, with each team securing two major awards.
Azania’s Arif Raja was named Best Player of the Series, while teammate Rehaan Atif claimed the Best Batter award.
Representing Dar Combined, Sanay Jobanputra was awarded Best Bowler and Salman Yasser took home the Best Wicketkeeper award.

Speaking at the award ceremony, TCA Chief Executive Officer, Hamis Abdallah commended all participating teams for their efforts and lauded the tournament as a great success.
“This tournament has exceeded our expectations,” said Abdallah.
“These young athletes showcased exceptional skill, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout. It’s a clear sign that the future of Tanzanian cricket is bright.”
He added that the InterAcademy League is part of TCA’s broader vision to promote, develop and identify young cricket talent in the country.
The tournament, which ran from June 25 to July 1, 2025, serves as a key platform for nurturing future stars and strengthening national youth teams.
From intense matchups to unforgettable cricketing moments, the league provided a valuable opportunity for rising players from all regions to demonstrate their potential.
Abdallah also thanked all the participating teams and their coaches, noting that tournaments like this are essential to the growth and success of cricket in Tanzania.
