Dar Water Institute set for 21st World Lake Conference

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Water Institute has started preparing for the 21st World Lake Conference (WLC21) after it was officially announced to host it in Dar es Salaam in July 2027.

The global conference will be organized in collaboration with the International Lake Environment Committee (ILEC), a Japan-based organization dedicated to research, conservation, and sustainable management of lake resources worldwide.

Speaking after the announcement, Professor Adam Karia, Rector of the Water Institute, described the selection as a great honor for Tanzania and a recognition of the country’s contribution to the water sector.

He emphasized that this milestone affirms the institute’s commitment to advancing academic excellence, conducting impactful research, and actively engaging in policy advocacy on sustainable water resource management.

“Through this conference, Tanzania will have a unique opportunity to showcase its achievements in managing water sources and to learn from other countries around the world that are facing similar challenges,” said Prof. Karia.

WLC21 is expected to attract participants from across the globe, offering a vital platform for experts, scientists, policymakers, and stakeholders in the water sector to exchange knowledge, share scientific innovations, and strengthen international collaboration aimed at protecting and developing the world’s freshwater resources.
