Zanzibar’s calling! Why Tanzanians should take a beach break

ZANZIBAR: IMAGINE living 80 years on this beautiful piece of land we call Tanzania without ever setting foot on Zanzibar’s famous beaches.
The white sand, turquoise waters, and the warm breeze-sounds like a dream, right? Well, for many Tanzanians, it is just a dream they have never bothered to wake up to.
Meanwhile, tourists from across the world are lining up to experience the same paradise that locals have conveniently overlooked.
If that is not a tragedy, we don’t know what is! It is time for Tanzanians to be local tourists in their own country.
There is a certain joy in exploring your homeland that foreign visitors are already tapping into-like discovering the sweet taste of your mother’s cooking after years of eating takeout.
It is an experience that is both humbling and exhilarating.
Zanzibar, with its stunning beaches, is a treasure trove waiting for local tourists.

Yet, too many of us wait for an ‘occasion’ to visit-birthdays, anniversaries, or random invites from long-lost cousins.
But why wait? Zanzibar’s beaches are calling every day! Imagine a local Tanzanian in their 50s who has never seen the legendary Nungwi Beach or the enchanting sands of Kendwa.
This is not just a missed opportunity-It is an adventure left behind.
While we are busy working or dreaming of vacations to other countries, tourists are snapping up all the beautiful spots, sometimes even crowding our shores! Tanzanians, it is time to lead the way.
Instead of waiting for a special invitation, let us start making our own beach plans. Zanzibar’s shores are not just for foreigners-they are ours to enjoy.
It is time to trade in that work uniform for some beachwear, grab a local ferry, and dive into the best of what our country has to offer. And who knows? Maybe the tourists will be jealous of us for once!

Many Tanzanians want to benefit local tourism, however how can one enjoy the tourism if they are counted as foreigners , whether that is in Tanzania or Zanzibar, a small example is the prices for enjoying the hotels, beaches and see adventures most of them are in dollars, knowing that the Tanzanian community salary is based in shillings, the minimum wage is not enough and then the charges are high.
I thank the management of they are thinking of localizing tourism for locals, but if there is no different between hosts and guests, locals won’t be able to enjoy and prefer to save money and enjoy out country trips
