Temesa to spend 60bn/- to accomplish various projects

THE Tanzania Electrical, Mechanical and Electronics Services Agency (TEMESA) has said that in the financial year 2022/23 they will implement various projects, including construction and repair of ferries as well as its infrastructure, where all the projects will cost 60bn/-.
Temesa Executive Director Mr Lazaro Kihalahala said this when laying a foundation stone for the construction of the new Kisorya-Rugezi ferry in Mwanza recently.
He said in this financial year, the agency is continuing with the construction of seven new ferries which are (Kisorya – Rugezi) (Bwiro – Bukondo), (Nyakalilo – Kome), (Ijinga – Kahangala) and (Mafia – Nyamisati).
Mr Kihalahala said that the contracts have been signed and the contractors have been paid in advance and the work is going on.
He said the government is also repairing 14 ferries which include MV Kazi, MV Misungwi, MV Musoma, MV Sabasaba, MV Tanga, MV Nyerere, MV Kitunda, MV Kilombero II, MV Ruhuhu, MV Magogoni, MV Ujenzi, MVv Kome II, and MV Mara.
Explaining about the construction of the Kisorya-Rugezi ferry, Mr Kihalahala said the project officially started on June 3rd last year and the construction will cost 5bn/-.
He said the ferry will be built by Songoro Marine Transport limited and after completion, it ferry will ply between Ukerewe and Bunda districts.
“When this ferry is completed, it will be able to carry 800 passengers and the capacity to carry 170 tonnes of cargo, including 22 small cars (saloon cars),” he said.
In addition he said, the ferry will be 52.23 metres long, 12.59 metres wide, 2.4 metres main deck depth, 1.9 metres draft and will be powered by two new Doosan L126 TIH 360 HP engines with their own gearboxes.
Mr Kihalahala added that the ferry will be equipped with modern navigation equipment as well as warning and rescue equipment, which meets the international Marine Standards (IMO Standards).
On his side, Songoro Marine Managing Director Mr Major Songoro promised that they will build the new Kisorya-Rugezi ferry in accordance with international standards. He said that the project will be completed in April 2023.
He has thanked the government for continuing to trust local contractors by giving them various tenders.
Mwanza Regional Commissioner Mr Adam Malima congratulated Temesa for coming up with the ferry project. He instructed Temesa to continue with the efforts to provide solution to various transport problems facing the citizens.
