794 graduates enrolled in VETA to acquire additional practical skills

DAR ES SALAAM: A total of 794 university graduates have enrolled in vocational training programmes offered by the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) to acquire additional practical skills and improve their competitiveness in the labour market.

VETA Director General Anthony Kasore revealed this in Dar es Salaam on Friday stating that the growing number of graduates taking up vocational training reflects the increasing importance of additional technical skills in securing employment and responding to changing labour market demands.

Elaborating, he said that some of those enrolled were employees in public and private institutions who had opted to acquire additional skills to enhance their professional capabilities and meet evolving workplace requirements.

Moreover, Mr Kasore urged other graduates and Tanzanians seeking additional skills to take advantage of the opportunity, saying the window for joining VETA training programmes remains open.

He said VETA has also started linking the graduates with 16 industries to enable them to put their newly acquired skills into practice and build practical competence in their respective fields.

“This is an opportunity for graduates and other Tanzanians who need additional skills to strengthen their capacity and improve their prospects in the labour market,” he said.

Apart from training graduates, Kasore said VETA has reached 4,465 entrepreneurs, including food vendors, barbers and other service providers, with skills aimed at improving the way they run their businesses.

He said the initiative was designed to equip entrepreneurs with better working methods, improve the quality of their services and increase productivity.
