DAR ES SALAAM: THE Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE) in collaboration with other stakeholders has embarked on an initiative to support environmental conservation.
The association will collaborate with Coca-Cola Kwanza and DHL Tanzania to promote environmental protection.
ATE Chief Executive Officer Ms. Suzanne Ndomba-Doran said “environmental conservation is fundamental, especially for the sake of current and future generations.
“Clean environments are essential for humanity, as an employers’ association, we want this initiative to be sustainable to continue protecting the environment,” Ms. Doran said yesterday during the climax of customer service week celebrations.
The initiative goes beyond tree planting to include cleaning the sewage systems around the Mikocheni B area, an industrial zone.
On June 5 this year, the world celebrated the 51st World Environmental Day under the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
This day is observed to raise awareness about urgent environmental challenges globally, such as deforestation, climate change, water scarcity, and biodiversity loss.

Land degradation is a complex issue caused by various factors, both natural and human-induced, including over-cultivation and overgrazing.
The Mikocheni’s Local Government Chairman Mr Nelson Saidi said that despite government initiatives, including a cleanliness drive which is being carried out on every last Saturday of the month, environmental cleanliness remains a challenge in many communities.
He expressed hope that through ATE’s efforts, other companies would be encouraged to participate, helping ensure that environmental conservation remains a priority in the country.
“The goal is not just to clean up during events but to make this action a part of our daily lives. Therefore, by cleaning the environment and planting trees, we will help address environmental challenges, many of which are caused by climate change,” he said.
Additionally, Mikocheni Ward Health Officer Mr. Adam Ndutu stated that, aside from maintaining clean environments, environmental conservation significantly reduces the prevalence of infectious diseases in our communities.
